Oberwang (A)

The Undula façade is a 3D-printed structural system made of cement mortar with curved, segmented columns. An integrated, computational design approach combines structural, material, and fabrication aspects. An advanced equilibrium model generates a globally stable network that is discretized into elements, enabling non-planar printing layers that precisely control force flow and joint geometry. The façade consists of two 12 m-long sections with a total of 48 columns, fabricated from 240 robotically printed segments. Accelerators and filament reinforcement improve early strength. Assembly uses dry joints with local prestressing, eliminating the need for formwork and demonstrating the potential of efficient 3D printing methods.
